3D Modeling of crash
vehicles:
We have been using a lot of Autodesk products up to and
including Mechanical Desktop and Inventor. Recently we have begun using
additional software such as Rhino and others for modeling, meshing and
surfacing crashed cars. Once a vehicle has been measured using our
Vulcan Laser Mapping System or the Mensi Scanning Laser we can mesh it,
surface it, color it and map textures to it.
The accuracy of our scaled vehicles is useful for many
types of measuring requirements, such as:
Steering Wheel deformation during a crash
Dynamic distortion of the occupant space
Rearward distortion of the front bumper
Seatbelt angles
Rollover downward roof distortion
Highly detailed damage patterns
Here are some examples of our high detail modeling:

This is the Mustang at
the heart of the modeling above. It is a Mustang that was involved in a
one car run off the road crash with low speed changes. 2 teenagers burned
to death in this crash. It is tragic that these things happen all too
often.
